ACCESS-SE02:Mt.Tatsuware – Kuromae shrine first and second torii gate

Mt.Tatsuware area is located in a somewhat inaccessible remote area in the northern part of Ibaraki Prefecture. The area is not high in elevation, but it is prone to fog, giving the mountain area a quiet and solemn atmosphere. Mt.Tatsuware is a mountain of faith with the Kurosaki Shrine, which boasts a long history, near its summit. The origin of the shrine dates back to the period written in the Hitachinokuni Fudoki, and it is believed to be dedicated to Kurosaka no Mikoto, a man whose name is anecdotally associated with the prefecture’s name “Ibaraki”.
As you will see when you access the shrine, the path to Kuromae Shrine narrows abruptly from the first torii gate, passes through the second torii gate to a trail, and then requires climbing a long flight of stairs past torii gates and shrine buildings, making it a challenging walk even though it is a low mountain. With each step you take, it is as if you are lifting a veil of mystery one by one, so why not climb the mountain with a bit of trepidation?
