Ibaraki Kenpoku Long Trail Event Report⑤

June 26,2022 Maintenance experience event was held.

A monitoring event,“Maintenance Experience Event,”was held at the course where the Ibaraki Kenpoku Long Trail is scheduled to open.
Fourteen of the 22 participants were new to the program, including a third-grader and a sixth-grader with their mothers.
This was a maintenance project to develop a new route connecting Mt. Takasuzu and Mt. Kunimi. The path, which had been deeply overgrown with vegetation and littered with fallen trees and rocks, has been beautifully restored to look so clean and splendid that it is hard to believe that it is the same place.
Thank you to everyone who participated!

Maintenance Experience Event (June 26,2022)

Twenty-two people attended the event.
Some of you came all the way from Kanagawa to join us!
It was a very hot day.
We’ll be working on that, watching out for heat stroke!
Grab your tools and walk to the maintenance area.Through the village…
Continue through the forest. We arrived at the entrance to the maintenance area.
We divided the group into groups by tool.
The Maintenance and Utilization Leader will explain how to do the work.
Before maintenance ①.
This is a view of the trailhead. The end of the road cannot be seen clearly.
Before maintenance ②
It is overgrown with grass and trees.
Before maintenance ③
The grass had grown up,and there were fallen trees strewn about.
I almost stumbled many times.
Before maintenance ④
Before maintenance ⑤.Before maintenance ⑥.
It’s so dense,I’m tempted to turn back…
Before maintenance ⑦.
I am looking forward to seeing how it will change.
Now it is time to start maintenance.
A mower is used to clear away the underbrush.Chain saws are a big help in dealing with fallen trees that block the way.
Thin trees and vines are cut steadily with a saw. After some visibility, weeding is done by hand.
We join forces to beat the bushes.Carry the fallen tree with your friends and get out of the way.
The mowed grass is moved cleanly away with a rake. When I moved the floating stones out of the way,I met a king crab.
We take a lunch break on the road that we all cut through.
After this we worked until 14:00 and descended the mountain.
After maintenance ①.
The trailhead was clear and bright.
After maintenance ②.
I don’t think it is the same road.
After maintenance ③.
After maintenance ④.
The scattered fallen trees are gone,
There is nothing to prevent you from progressing.
After maintenance ⑤.
After maintenance ⑥.After maintenance ⑦.
From the dense bushes
The path has been transformed into a path with pleasant sunlight filtering through the trees.
Along the road,Rubus hirsutus were ripening.
This year, too, the satoyama in the northern part of the prefecture is experiencing a hot summer.
Another new road has been pioneered.
Thank you,participants!
