HISTORICAL-SE06:
Remnants of ancient times~Kofun and Hitachinokuni Fudoki
A group of yokoana (horizontal holes) can be seen on Raijinzan Mountain near SE-46, which is believed to be a type of burial mound dating back to the 8th or 9th century.
The SE06 map is surrounded by a river and nearby flatlands and plateaus, and there are many places where traces of life in very old times can be seen.
In the “Fudoki of Hitachinokuni,” it is written that there is a “river where agate can be harvested” in this area, and it is assumed that this river is the “Tamagawa” that flows to the west of Michi-no-Eki Hitachi-Omiya. Because agate is beautiful and also used as flint, it was so valuable that it was exchanged for jade in ancient trade.
On the other hand, as the name “Golden Sand Township” remains near SE-53, it seems that gold sand was also extracted in the vicinity. Why not take a walk along the trail and feel the richness of life from ancient times, with its scattered footprints?
