Watch out for wasps!
Fall is a dangerous time when wasps become aggressive. In particular, if there is little rainfall and high temperatures in summer, wasps are more likely to be present in large numbers. Wasp stings have been reported in the mountain areas of Ibaraki Prefecture.
Please be careful of wasps when you walk in the Hitachinokuni Long Trail.
To avoid wasp stings
To avoid wasp stings, take the following precautions
- Try to wear white clothing because they have a habit of attacking black objects.
- Avoid strong-smelling products such as hairdressing and perfume.
- If you encounter a wasp, run away while slowly backing up.
- Don’t brush it off with your hand or a towel, but keep low and let it pass.
If you get stung.
If you are stung by a wasp, take the following first aid measures and seek medical attention immediately.
- Squeeze out the bee venom with a commercial aspirator or by picking it up with your hand (do not suck it out with your mouth, as it is dangerous).
- Wash the affected area with water (to flush out toxins and cool the area).
